Wishcasting Wednesday – What do You Wish to Choose?

Remember that quote from “Trainspotting“? Enter Mark “Rents” Renton, heroin addict and main character (read it aloud with a wicked Scottish accent):

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suit on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose life… But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin’ else.

That’s the first thing that came to my mind when I discovered Jamie Ridler’s Wishcasting prompt for today.

Let me reassure you: I do not choose to be a heroin addict. Instead, I DO choose life, the one I want to live, on my own terms. I choose to go forward and fully commit to making my dreams come true and inspiring others while doing so. I choose passion, freedom, empowerment, joy, and above all, love.

And dark chocolate, always.

  1. I don’t know if anyone CHOOSES to be a heroin addict. But the other chosen lifestyle described is equally addictive and mummifying, if less overtly deadly. The point is to actively choose, I think, and not allow the heroin or suburban dreams to do the choosing for us.

So as you wish to choose for yourself, so I wish for you too.

  2. I love the movie homage darling! xx

  3. Great wish. As you wish for yourself so I wish for you also.

  4. Wow! What a dialog! As you wish for yourself, I wish for you also….and dark chocolate, too..

  5. Did you say dark chocolate? I’m sorry, was there something about wishes?

I wish for everyone a beautiful chocolate covered life!

As you wish for yourself, dear Emmanuelle, so i wish for you also.
